When most people think of compost, they think of an outdoor bin or pile where leaves, grass, and other organic yard waste are added. While this is the most common method for making compost, it is not the only way. You can actually make compost right in your own backyard without any fancy equipment.
All you need to do is find a spot in your yard that gets a good amount of sun and dig a hole that is a few feet deep and wide. Once you have your hole, you will need to fill it with organic matter. This can be leaves, grass, vegetable scraps, fruit peels, coffee grounds, and more. Basically, anything that was once alive can be used as compost.
