Southfield Topsoil Suppliers

Topsoil is an important part of any garden or landscaping project. It provides the nutrients and structure that plants need to grow strong and healthy. When choosing a topsoil supplier, it is important to consider a few key factors.

The first factor to consider is the quality of the soil. The best topsoil suppliers will have high-quality soil that is rich in nutrients and minerals. The soil should also be well-drained, so that it does not become waterlogged when it rains.

The second factor to consider is the variety of soils available. Good topsoil suppliers will offer a variety of soils, so that you can find the perfect one for your project.

Questions to Your Local Supplier

When looking for a topsoil supplier, there are many things to consider. The first question to ask is what kind of topsoil they offer. There are several different types, each with its own benefits and drawbacks. The most common type is loam, which is a mix of sand, silt, and clay. It’s a good all-purpose soil that can be used for most plants.

Another important question to ask is how the topsoil is made. Some suppliers use only natural ingredients, while others add in man-made materials. The latter can be beneficial in some cases, but it’s important to know what you’re getting.

You should also figure out approximately how much soil you need. Sometimes, this requires a trained eye. You’d be surprised how quickly 5 yards of dirt can be used up. You don’t want to get too little, but you also don’t want to get too much. If you finish the job with extra dirt, you’ll need to somehow dispose of the extra.

Additionally, be sure to ask the price per yard and whether or not delivery is included. Depending on the company, the price for 5 yards could be the same as for 10 yards! Some Southfield topsoil companies will offer a low price per each yard but then tack on a fairly large delivery fee. Others, though, will include the delivery in the per-yard price.

Lastly, make sure the MI topsoil business will be able to deliver to your address. Very often, these suppliers will only travel within 10-15 miles of their soil site.

About Southfield, Michigan

The City of Southfield is located in the metro Detroit area and was incorporated in 1957. The city was named after two prominent families: the Souths and the Fieldses. Detroit industrialist and developer Seymour Skinner South developed the idea of consolidating several small villages into a planned community with a park and garden setting. His friend and business associate, Elisha S. Field, Jr., helped him bring the plan to fruition. The two men purchased 1,500 acres of farmland in what was then the rural community of Lathrup Village. They named their new development Southfield because it was located south of Detroit.
