How topsoil delivery works
Bulk topsoil is sold by the cubic yard and delivered by dump truck. A tandem truck carries roughly 10–12 yards; smaller trucks top out near 5. Most yards deliver within a 15–30 mile radius and charge a flat trip fee of $50–150, then mileage beyond that.
Because the trip fee is flat, ordering slightly more is usually cheaper than coming up short and paying for a second delivery. One cubic yard covers about 100 square feet at three inches deep.
What to check before the truck arrives
Drivers need overhead clearance and firm ground, and most will not reverse across a new lawn or a soft driveway. Decide where the pile goes before delivery day and make sure the route is clear.
